LOUISIANA MARSH
The Louisiana Marsh abstracts were made in south Louisiana in 2006, in the wake of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Visiting her hometown of New Iberia, the artist found a corroding collection of sugar barges that had ridden out the fierce storms in the Bayou Teche. The markings on them showed the impact of saltwater storm surges in freshwater bayous, and the imprint of the lush flora and fauna struggling to survive the devastation. Critics have praised the Louisiana Marsh series for its elegant use of form and color to evoke wetlands landscapes. One image in this series, Water Levels, is in the permanent collection of the Ogden Museum of Southern Art in Louisiana.
